Philadelphia Steadicam
Ben Semanoff,
Steadicam Owner / Operator
Philadelphia is the home of Steadicam.
In
1973 Garrett Brown, inventor of the Steadicam and Philadelphia resident,
released his creation on the film community. Although the impact of
Steadicam is clear today, it wasn't an instant success.
It took some very courageous filmmakers to realize the potential of Steadicam
and put it to good use.
In 2002, Ben Semanoff was fortunate to receive
his Steadicam training from the inventor himself, Garrett
Brown. Semanoff attended a Steadicam
Operators Association workshop held outside of Philadelphia
in Chester Springs. Garrett Brown was lead instructor.

Later that year Garrett Brown invited Semanoff
to join his flying camera team. Semanoff began training in the deployment
of Brown's 35mm cable suspended system SuperFlyCam
at Brown's Exton workshop (just outside Philadelphia).
Semanoff also helped continue developing and improving the technology.
Brown quickly became mentor and friend to Semanoff.
In 2005, Garrett Brown sold SuperFlyCam
and its worldwide license to Semanoff's company Top
Hat Productions LLC, which offers film and video production services
to the Philadelphia area and beyond.
Since 2002, Semanoff has
been offering his services as a A and B Camera Operator, Steadicam
Operator and Specialty Camera Technician and Operator
to the Philadelphia area and beyond. He's worked
on a wide variety of Philadelphia based productions offering
Philadelphia Steadicam on Feature Films, Commercials,
Music Videos, Television, Documentaries, Short Films and Corporate Videos.
